HOMEWORK
Homework encourages pupils to develop the
skills, confidence and motivation to study effectively on their
own. Staff use it as a means of consolidating and reinforcing the
skills and understanding taught in school. Working at home gives
pupils an opportunity to extend what they have learned in school
and parents or carers an opportunity to be involved in and informed
about their child's learning. All pupils are expected to do homework,
but the amount and frequency varies, depending on the age of the
pupil.
Each child has an individual reading book
and library book and it is helpful if parents or carers encourage
their child to read each evening. Pupils from Year 7 onwards have
a set timetable for homework which they will be given at the start
of each school year. They will also have a homework diary in which
they write down what work they are expected to do each day.
It is very helpful if parents or carers
could monitor and encourage their child to complete their homework
commitments and discuss their child's allocation of homework with
the class teacher if they have any queries.
