Welcome to The Forest School newsletter. The Summer Term is here even though the summer weather isn’t! We welcome Lucy Finlayson to the Early Years Class and George Tempest to Class 1. Along with the summer term come our residential visits. A group of Year 7 and 8 pupils have enjoyed a very successful week at Bewerley Park Centre. In May, Year 9 are going to Bamburgh for a week and on 2nd June Year 6 go to Cober Hill, and Year 7 and 8 pupils who did not go to Bewerley Park are going to East Barnby. These experiences are very important for the pupils and give them the opportunity to experience and learn things that would not be possible if they just stayed at school. Without our committed hard working staff these school journeys would not be possible.

SENSORY GARDEN/PLAYGROUND

When we returned to school after Easter, we found that a neglected dull area of our play space had been converted into a lovely sensory garden. This has been made possible by the hard work of members of Knaresborough Rotary Club. Throughout the Autumn and Spring Terms, they worked with the school council to plan the new garden. During the Easter Holidays, not daunted by the bad weather the Rotary Club members worked to build the garden. On our return to school the pupils were thrilled to find it , one was heard to say “It is better than I ever imagined.”

We have also had new playground markings with multiskills games and a roadway and several new bikes for the pupils to enjoy.

YELLOW PAGES

Harrogate Borough Council, have now collected our Yellow Pages for recycling so please don’t send any further copies into school. We collected 260! Thank you to Elliot Hayden in Year 7 who managed to collect 2 car loads!

THANKS go to Mrs McNulty, who has volunteered to transform our flower bed at the front of school. She has worked very hard over the last few weeks, and the results are GREAT!

NYCC SURVEY

North Yorkshire County Council is carrying out a survey of parents of children 0 to 18 years across the County. The information gathered will be used to develop areas of priority for the Children and Young People’s Plan 2008-2011, which will inform the direction of children and young people’s services in North Yorkshire until 2011.

They are particularly interested to capture the views of parents who may not be represented through the telephone survey which forms another component of this consultation process.

Therefore, we ask that you complete this survey and give them your opinion of the services for your child/children in the county.

The survey is available online though the NYCC homepage until 2nd May (just click on Children and Young People’s Plan 2008-2011:

Parents, have your say!) or alternatively visit http://www.nwaresearch.co.uk/surveys/North_Yorks_Parents/north_yorks_parents_survey.htm

A hard copy of the survey is available from the school office.
