Welcome to the March newsletter. Mrs Caroline Midwood has joined the secondary department to teach Maths. Mr Patrick Organ is to join us in April to teach Science in the secondary department, and Ms Lisa Frankland is also to join us in April as the new Assistant Headteacher (Primary).

TEACHERS 2 PARENTS
Many of you have told us how much you like the new texting system for communication. We are going to subscribe to the service for the next year , so expect more text messages from us. We will use them to send reminders about events and off site activities.

Unfortunately you can’t reply to the texts directly, but do telephone if you wish. This system won’t replace letters from school yet – so please continue to read these too!

SINGING AND SIGNING CHOIR

As mentioned in the January newsletter some of our pupils school have been working with two professional musicians from Live Music Now on a weekly basis, along with two volunteers from the ‘Hands and Voices’ choir. Several pupils from Class 2 through to Year 10 are involved, along with 10 Year 4 pupils from Knaresborough St Johns School. The new choir will be giving their debut performance on Tuesday 31st March in Harrogate at St Wilfred’s Church on Duchy Road at 1.30pm. In addition to the school choir’s performance, there will also be some participatory activities led by Two’s Company, a professional voice and piano duo, who are members of the Live Music Now scheme. You will also be treated to songs and music from all styles and genres. The concert is FREE and the choir members would be delighted if you were able to attend.

VOUCHERS – we are now collecting Tesco for Schools and Clubs Vouchers, and Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers. These schemes have provided valuable equipment for school in the past, and we would be most grateful if you could send any vouchers you have to school. Thank you.

SPRING FOREST 6TH FORM

The new provision, located at Springwater, is going to open in September. A briefing meeting for parents was held on 2nd March and was attended by a pleasing number of parents and carers. Information about the provision is available from school. The detailed work on the curriculum design is underway and plans include members of staff from The Forest School teaching their specialist subjects to the 16-19 year olds.

KIENEN SHARP EPILEPSY & SPECIAL NEEDS FOUNDATION

Kienen’s parents are setting up a Foundation in his memory to raise money for children with epilepsy and special needs. We hope to do some school fundraising for them later in the year. James Sharp, Kienen’s father is going to try the ‘North Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge’ on Saturday 30th May. Anyone wishing to sponsor him, please contact the school as we have sponsorship forms.

Mr and Mrs Sharp have made a donation to the school which we are going to use to establish a new award: ‘The Kienen Sharp Prize’ to be awarded annually to the primary pupil who makes the biggest contribution to the Christmas Production

CONGRATULATIONS
Gemma Fuller, a year 6 pupil at The Forest School, recently travelled to Germany to receive an achievement award. Well done Gemma!
