UNIFORM

Another school year is almost over and you may be thinking about ordering new uniform for your child.  Enclosed with this newsletter is an order form.  If you wish to place an order, please complete and return the form (with payment) by Wednesday 8th June.  This will ensure the items you want are delivered in July before we finish for the summer break.  We cannot guarantee July delivery for any orders received after 8th June.

DINNER MONEY

Just a reminder that school dinners cost £2.10 per day, £1.90 for the sibling rate and £1.60 for nursery age children.  When sending dinner money to school, please put it in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and class number.

Some children are eligible for free school meals.  If you think you may meet the criteria, please contact the school office for an application form, or visit the website www.northyorks.gov.uk

Just a reminder that if you pay in advance for meals and your child misses a meal for any reason, the amount paid is carried forward.  We do not charge for meals not taken.

SWIMMING

Swimming lessons are continuing with great success.  Thank you to parents who have paid for lessons.  However some money is still outstanding.  If you have received a reminder recently about swimming money, please forward cash or cheque to school as soon as possible.

ROYAL WEDDING PARTY!

The Early Years children had a wonderful time on 27th April, as we celebrated the Royal Wedding! We invited several of the older pupils to our playground party. The weather was lovely and we all enjoyed eating party food in the sunshine!

WOODLAND ADVENTURE

The pupils in Class 4 can often be found in the woods as Miss Adams is training as a “Forest School Leader”.  This experience is called ‘Forest Schools’ in most schools around the country but we have had to find a different name!  Woodland Adventure provides an outdoor learning experience offering pupils the opportunity to take risks, make choices and learn about nature.  We have been going to Nidd Gorge and have enjoyed the woodland adventure trail, walked by the river and explored the woods.  At our camp area Class 4 used a variety of tools such as peelers, bow saws, knives and loppers.  They have made wood cookies (wooden names discs), kazoos and a class xylophone.  They have taken part in activities such as blindfolded meet a tree, memory games and den making for toy animals.  Back at school we have had a couple of campfires and the pupils are learning to safely light their own fires using a fire steel.  We have toasted marshmallows and cooked welsh cakes on the fire.  Woodland Adventure has been a great success and will be offered to some secondary pupils next year.

5 STAR AWARD

All restaurant and food premises serving the public in the Harrogate district have now been awarded a star rating on the basis of the outcome of the last programmed inspection made by Harrogate Borough Council's Environmental Health Officers.

Nearly 1200 businesses that prepare food, direct to the public, including restaurants, cafes, pubs, fish and chip and sandwich shops, takeaways and schools, have been given scores in relation to food hygiene and safety, cleanliness and standard of premises and quality of management and staff training.

We are delighted to announce that our school kitchen has been awarded a 5-star certificate, which is the highest mark possible.  Well done to Donna, Carrie, Sandy and Jane who work very hard providing about 100 meals per day, whilst maintaining exceptional hygiene standards.

HATCHING CHICKS

Class 3 welcomed chicks this ½ term!  We had been waiting for them to hatch over the Easter holidays and they made an appearance very early on a Tuesday morning, much to the surprise of Mrs Stewart, who was woken by little cheeps at 3am!

We have watched them grow from tiny fluffy chicks into quite big chickens.  They were very noisy in class, chirping all day long and not listening to instructions.  We have taken turns holding them and discussing how best to feed and look after them.

Now that they are big enough they are going to go to a new home on a farm to be with other chickens and Class 3 will be quiet once more…I’m sure!
