Welcome back to the new school year to all our pupils and parents/carers,
and especially to our new pupils who are:-
Kate-Lynne English, James Laird, Joshua Lawson, & James Thomas
who have joined our Early Years Class.
Alexandra Barton who has joined Class 3. George Crouch and Jonathan
Dobson who have joined Class 4. Connor Sumner, Adam Aubad, Elliot
Hayden, & Emily Spinks who have joined Year 7.
Clark Abbott and Nathan Cawthra who have joined Year 10.
Year 11 students from last year have left school and progressed
to a number of different schools and colleges. From a cohort of
12 students:
6 students attend Askham Bryan College
1 student attends Applefields School
1 student attends Harrogate College
1 student attends West Oaks School
1 student attends Henshaws College
1 student attends Springwater School
1 student attends York College
Before leaving school they took a number of accredited courses.
The results show their excellent achievements. We gained:-
7 Maths GCSE’s (3G’s, 4F’s)
6 Science GCSE’s (5E’s, 1G)
4 Arts GCSE’s (C).
In Entry Level Certificates we achieved,
12 English, 10 Maths, 12 Science, 7 ICT, 8 Art, 12 Design and Technology,
10 French, 10 PE, 10 Food Studies and 3 Humanities certificates.
This means that every leaver last year gained some externally accredited
qualifications which they will build on in their next placement.
ENCLOSURES
Enclosed with this letter is the school calendar, Uniform Order
Form, and a Contact Details Sheet. Please complete the Contact Details
sheet, and return to the office as a matter of urgency, giving details
of any new medication and telephone numbers.
You will also find enclosed a questionnaire for parents and carers
about the provision we make for your children. Please complete it
and return to school by 1st October. Your views are very important
to us and while we know that we can’t please all of you all
of the time, we do take your views into account when planning the
school year and developing the provision we make for the pupils.
The School Link Brochure is also enclosed, and if you would like
to order any books, please complete the order form on the back page,
and return to school with payment in a clearly marked envelope.

SCHOOL LUNCHES
The menu for the Autumn Term is enclosed. Please note that the cost
of a school lunch has been increased to £1.80 per day, £9
per week. The amount due for the first half term is £61.20.
Cheques should be made payable to The Forest School BAFS, and cash
or cheques sent to school in
an envelope marked with the pupil’s name and form.
A FIRST FOR THE FOREST SCHOOL!
We are very pleased to tell you that The Forest School is the first
school in North Yorkshire to receive the BECTA quality mark, for
our work in ICT.
ANNUAL REVIEW MEETINGS
Annual Review Meetings will be held on Wednesday mornings for all
our pupils throughout the coming academic year. Invitations will
be sent to you regarding this, but if you would like to know the
date allocated for your child, please contact the school office.
YEAR 10 PUPILS
Enclosed with this letter are ‘End of Key Stage 3 Assessment
Results’. If you wish to discuss these, please contact Mrs
Simpson.
SCHOOL FRUIT AND VEGETABLE SCHEME
The Forest School will continue to participate in this scheme. Under
the scheme each pupil aged 4yrs – 6yrs is entitled to receive
a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day. This reinforces
our commitment to healthy eating, and helps children to achieve
their ‘5’ per day fruit or veg. If you have any concerns
about this, or need to advise us about allergies please contact
the school office or the class teacher.
KIRKBY OVERBLOW SUMMER ARTS FESTIVAL
Many many thanks to all involved in the Arts Festival. The Forest
School has received £2000 from this.

AND FINALLY ….
I hope you have enjoyed reading our newsletter. We produce at least
one every half term and send them home with the pupils so do look
out for them. The newsletters can also be viewed on the school website
at www.theforestschool.org.uk. We are looking forward to an eventful
school year and have many exciting events and activities planned
for the pupils.
For you we are planning a school Quiz on Friday 12th October and
a meeting of people who might be interested in forming a school
association on Friday 9th November at 7.30pm.
Our first Parents Consultation Evening will be on Tuesday October
16th . You will receive further information about these events in
due course so watch this space. We are looking forward to a great
school year and to seeing all of you soon.
