HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME -
A reminder about the law in relation to holidays in term time:
Regulations:- The law says that parents/carers do not have the
right to take their child out of school for a holiday during term
time.
On application made by the parent/carer with whom the pupil normally
resides, schools have discretionary power to grant up to 10 days
absence in a school year for a family holiday if they believe that
the circumstances warrant it. No parent/carer can demand leave of
absence for the purposes of a holiday as a right.
Schools may agree up to 10 days “holiday leave” in special
circumstances. If you would like more information please contact
us.
Holidays which are taken for the following reasons should not be
authorised:
· Availability of cheap holidays.
· Availability of the desired accommodation.
· Poor weather experienced in school holiday periods; and
· Overlap with beginning or end of term.
and remember
· Any request for leave should be made in advance. Holidays
cannot be authorised retrospectively.
· If a school does not agree an absence and the pupil goes
on holiday, absence is unauthorised.
· If a parent/carer keeps a child away for longer than was
agreed, any extra time is recorded as unauthorised.
ANNUAL REVIEW MEETINGS
We plan our reviews for Wednesday mornings and most weeks there
are 6 meetings taking place. The meetings are on Wednesday mornings
in order that the other professionals who work with us in health,
social services and educational psychology can be available to attend,
and additional staff are on hand to release the teachers from their
classrooms. I hope you will appreciate, therefore, that with about
120 Reviews each year it is extremely difficult to rearrange these
meetings and your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. The
timetable of meetings is planned through to next July and if you
would like to check when your child’s Review will be held,
prior to receiving your invitation, please telephone the school
office.
MONICA UDEN
HEADTEACHER
Your support for your son/daughter’s education is crucial
to their progress and wellbeing. Please tell us if there are any
adjustments we need to help you support them, for example: letters
in large font; letters in different languages, wheelchair access,
explaining things over the phone or a discussion with a colleague
of the same gender.
