THE ORGANISATION OF THE SCHOOL
The school is organised in four departments.
The Foundation Stage, The Primary Department, Key Stage 3 and Key
Stage 4.
Each department is led by a Co-ordinator and
has a staff of teachers and advanced teaching assistants.
The pupils are placed in the department and class
appropriate for their age. In the Foundation and Primary Department
they are taught by their class teachers for the majority of the
time.
In the Secondary Department, Key Stages 3 and
4, the pupils have a form tutor and they move around to specialist
subject tutors for their lessons.
CURRICULUM
The school provides a broad, balanced and relevant
curriculum which is differentiated to meet the needs of the pupils.
Our experienced team of teachers and Advanced Teaching Assistants
work together to deliver a curriculum tailored to the learning difficulties
of the pupils.
We have small teaching groups which allow the
staff to focus on the needs of each individual pupil. Personal and
social skills, organisation and social communication skills, as
well as academic skills are nurtured in order to encourage the development
of confident, well adjusted independent and socially aware young
people.
The staff team is made up of people who
bring a range of professional skills to the school. As well as teachers
and advanced teaching assistants the school has its own speech and
language therapist for 3 days a week and a team of local health
care trust staff: a speech and language therapist, physiotherapist
and occupation therapist. The school doctor visits regularly and
the school nurse is in school for part of the week.
